Post best price advice

I'm looking to buy a bunch of RPG books and haven't done that in a long time!

Excluding online sources where is the best place in Toronto to go if rock bottom price is the primary concern? Book stores, game stores, megastores, anywhere that sells WotC & Paizo products (primarily) is fine by me.

If selection is added as a concern does that change the answer?

I am aware that at least 3 stores are VERY active here. I'm hoping to hear from unbiased members rather than store staff. (I'm NOT looking to start a price war, I'm just very frugal by necessity and out of touch.)

Thanks!

TGB

The prices are more less equitable between the major gaming stores in Toronto. You might save a dollar or two here or there, but there's generally not a huge difference.

That being said, Harry Tarantula's and the Silver Snail have sales a few times a year where they slash their prices on RPG books by 20-40%. I picked up a number of hardcovers at Silver Snail during their March break sale for under $30 each. It's worth it to pop in every once and a while to see if a sale is on.

Also, it's a poorly kept secret that BMV Books (specifically the one in the Annex) often carries overstocked copies of older rulebooks at a massive discount. I managed to pick up a Gamemastery Guide there to the tune of $15. You really have to camp that place out though.

As Matt said, Most games stores are about the same. However I did notice that Meeplemart had a couple bestiaries with a Scratch & Dent discount that would save you an extra $5 if you don't mind scuffs.

While you'll do better elsewhere when the other places have sales, in general 401 is probably a little cheaper than the alternatives. They still give 10% off and tend to charge very close to US cover BEFORE that 10% is factored in.

One very cheap alternative for paizo books is to buy the pdfs. The hardcover books are very cheap.

Wizard's Cache recently sold its stock of Kingmaker books, and the owner absolutely refused to mark them up at all, despite Ebay prices being skyhigh. I would check them out if you're looking for something that might be marked up at another store.

The PDF of the hardcover rulebooks will run you $10 each, which means you can get all of the hardcover content for $100 US. If you're only looking for player options and don't want the Bestiaries, then you're down to $70.
