Dueling Grounds – August 18, 2016

This week I’m starting a new Adventure Path. It will be played in standard mode, not campaign mode. This one is worth a full level and is an evergreen. It is expected to take 2-3 consecutive weeks so please sign up only if you plan to make all 3 sessions.

In the city of Wati, the church of Pharasma holds a lottery allowing explorers to delve the tombs of the city’s vast necropolis in search of the nation’s lost glories. In the course of investigating dusty tombs and fighting their ancient guardians and devious traps, the heroes encounter a group of rival adventurers intent on keeping one tomb’s treasures for themselves. At the same time, the heroes learn that a dangerous artifact has been stolen from the tomb. Can the adventurers defeat their rivals, or will they fall to the undead defenders of the city’s necropolis?

I’ve also added an overflow table in case we get another GM and players for a second table.

    Oops. I forgot there will be no game on Sept 1st due to Fan Expo. If this goes 3 weeks we will conclude on the 8th.

    Paul – I had a look at the spell Blend. Attacking does end the spell (like Invisibility).

      You’re quite right. I got it confused with the moving too quickly causing it to not work until you had a chance to re-stealth.

      That makes it significantly less powerful. Still darn useful, of course.

        I was looking for the rule on saving throws wrt Alchemical weapons and an alchemists splash damage. Found several threads that seemed to agree that it was unclear :-).

        I did find the FAQ stating that Point Blank Shot does NOT add to the splash damage. It is possible that I was misremebering.

        This game is just too complicated :-). And WAY too many rules are buried somewhere almost impossible to find 🙁

          It’s only over ten thousand pages worth of rules, with faqs and blog posts for context and developer comments buried in the conversations of highly opinionated players. Understanding the game is probably on par with the core content of an average university degree. Then again most of my economics text books didn’t attempt to interact with each other.

    Found the blog regarding hardness. I was wrong, David applied the rule mostly correct. “When a creature with hardness sustains damage, subtract its hardness from the damage dealt. The rules for halving damage, doubling damage, dealing damage with ineffective tools, immunities, and the like only apply to damaging inanimate objects.”

    So hardness applies to all damage. Magic missile is useless against a creature with 5 hardness and hardness is applied even when the creature is vulnerable to the energy applied.

    That said I’m hoping the next crawl involves more undead and less constructs.
